K's Echo.

K had her echocardiogram on her heart today. She was such a trooper, she kicked and smiled away at the technician and grabbed at the wand like, "Here I'll just do it myself!". The tech said she was the best behaved baby she'd ever had! She didn't cry at all until the very end when I had to pull the stickers off her chest, poor baby that had to hurt :(
We won't have the results until after the holiday when the cardiac surgeon has time to go over the images, but the tech said she thought we could be at ease because she didn't see anything that would concern her. So I guess she knows what she's doing enough that I feel comfortable letting my mind be at ease until after the holiday.

2 month check-up

K had her 2 month check-up today. She weighs 13lb 4oz (gain of 8lbs since birth) and is 23.5 inches long (2 inches longer). She's in the 83 percentile for her weight...my little chunker! The pedi looked at her birthmark on her arm and said it was a hemangeoma. I thought it was kind of weird that I developed one of those on my chest while I was pregnant with her and now he has one!

We did find out some news today that upset me some. K has a heart murmur. Pedi said that it's what they call a "flow murmur" and it's when her heart is pumping blood out. She said it's fairly common and that I shouldn't get too worried about it. We scheduled an echocardiogram for this Thursday but we won't have the results until after Christmas. I'm a little nervous, but trying to take doc's advice and not get too worried. I hope all is well, and I'll update when we know more.

Not Forgotten!

No I haven't forgotten about my blog, although these days it is the farthest thing from my mind. Between cuddling my princess and being her 24/7 milk machine my days are pretty much filled up! Let's see if I can make up for it with some cuteness!

It's a Girl!

K was born on 10/13 (4 days past our due date) at 9:08pm after 22 hours of intense back labor! She weighed 8lbs 7oz and was 21 and a half inches long!

At our doc appointment on Tuesday we found out she's already up to 9lbs! I was shocked because we've been having trouble with her latch due to a tongue tie, but it seems she's getting enough to eat despite that little set back. It just makes momma very, very sore! I'm still trying to write my birth story so I'll post it when I get it done along with some pictures!

MY BODY WON'T GIVE UP THIS BABY!

Here's what's been going on...
  • I had had a back ache all day yesterday from about 10am until I went to bed at 10pm and I'm certain it was back labor and the start of my early labor.
  • About midnight I woke up to a really intense contraction that took my breath away, and I kept getting them about 15-10 minutes apart until 4am this morning.
  • At 4am they jumped to 10-7 minutes apart and were picking up in intensity.
  • Five o'clock comes around and I get out of bed with DH and travel downstairs where I can time better with the computer. From then until 7am they were 7-5 minutes apart lasting almost a minute and half each time.
  • At 9:15 and I'm lucky if I get one every 20 minutes!
  • Now I'm lucky to have one an hour... UGHHH are you kidding me?!?

Like S says "come out baby it's my turn to hold you"!!

Happy Due Date To Me!!!

So... today is my due date. That's right today I am "supposed" to have a baby. I don't think that Squishy is going anywhere just yet, but he or she may just surprise us! (I HOPE he or she decides to come out today, but that's no secret!)

So send lots of baby thoughts our way today and lots and lots of labor dust. I have been repeating over and over again " I AM GOING TO HAVE A BABY TODAY"! We will see if my mantra does anything for us!

Horoscopes...

This has been amusing me tonight...
S's horoscope for this week!
"An unexpected package could arrive, possibly shipped from far away. The circumstances could be rather strange. Friends or relatives that you might not expect could suddenly show up, and you could spend a frantic hour or two organizing an impromptu party. This can be very gratifying, Virgo, but don't wear yourself out. Everyone should have a good time no matter what."

Mine for this week!
"Watch your words, Gemini. Mercury, your ruler, is square Pluto on Tuesday, and you could say something to an associate that you'll regret if you aren't careful. Consider zipping your lip! Inspiration will be on tap on Thursday. Artistic pursuits will be a main pastime. Set long-term goals on Saturday. You're too focused on daily activities. It's important to remember that tomorrow will come. Prepare for the future this weekend. Adventure beckons on Sunday. You'll be ready to experience bold adventures"

Interesting... I think so!!

39 Weeks and Survey!

39 Weeks!

Your baby's waiting to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it's likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.

How far along? 39w 2d

Stretch marks? I am officially covered! It looks like I was attacked by a tiger!!

Sleep: I'm up like clockwork every 2 hours! I can't wait to sleep without hip pain!

Movement: Is definelty different! No longer those big kicks and movements, now it's more of a slow rolling/pushing.

Food commentary: I've become a bottomless pit lately. I think Squishy had a little last minute growth spurt

Labor Signs: Having very sporadic contractions... nothing major. Dying for something more concrete!

Belly Button in or out? Some days it's in and other days it's out... it goes back and forth!

What I miss: Still the same list.... Sleeping on my tummy! Wine! The time when I didn't waddle like a duck! Wine! And many many more things!

What I am looking forward to: Holding this sweet little baby! It's time to come out Squishy!!

Nesting madness: Has been in full force the last 2 days!

Milestones: Saturday is our due date!!

Appointment Update!

Had a lovely appointment today accompanied by not only my husband but my mother-in-law too! Talked about Braxton Hicks contractions with the MW and discovered I've been having lots more than I realized! We went over what to do when I go into labor, about timing contractions and how far apart they should be before I come it. Also about what to do if my water breaks beforehand, and I was very surprised that she didn't want me to come in right away. She said that I can hang out at home for awhile and that there's no need to rush in to L&D like they used to have women do! MW poked and squished the belly quite a bit today and showed me where knees and feet were! She also predicted that from years of experience she's guessing that we don't have an overly large baby in there. Definitely no 9 pounder... so again I say to my husband HA!We also got preregistered with the hospital so that means no endless stacks of paper-work to fill out when we do go into labor! WOO-HOO!

Afterward MIL treated S and I to Mexican food at Garcia's! YUMMY! :)

I am so graceful.... NOT!

I am such a klutz, I fell walking to my car this morning! It was pouring down rain and we have this ramp thing that leads to where we park our cars and I KNOW that it gets really slippery but I just wasn't thinking! So the second I stepped on it, down I went! I landed on my butt with my left leg straight out and my right one tucked under me. Thankfully S was right behind me and could help me get up and back into the house!

I went straight up to our bedroom to change my soaked pants and laid right down. After a little while I came downstairs and called the midwife and she gave me a list of things to be on the watch for but thankfully none of them have appeared! I have spent the day taking it easy on the couch, staying well hydrated, and also took a long hot (but not too hot) bath!

I'm so happy that baby is OK and is moving around lots, but I have to say his/her movements are making me more sore right now! And my right hip really, really hurts! :(

Appointment Update and a small rant!

We had our 37.5 week appointment today. Not to much to report back on... no exciting news of dilation or effacement (because my MW won't check until my due date) all of which bums me out immensely! However I still am having on and off contractions, both real and BH. MW told us that she estimates Squishy to be about 6lbs right now, which I think sounds perfect, S however is still insisting this is going to be a 10lb  baby... I WILL PROVE HIM WRONG! Stubborn, yes!

On a side note... tonight is a full moon! Old wives tales state that the full moon has an effect on the waters in your uterus making the full moon prime time for baby popping out. I am staking my full faith in the moon tonight and it's mystical ability to get this baby out! (Please dear God let those old bittys finally get something right!) To help it along I am also downing as much Raspberry Leaf Tea as I can possibly stomach, along with some pineapple, a long bath, bouncing on my exercise ball, and possibly a walk. Not to mention an insane amount of praying to the man upstairs that he will please just let this baby come out already!!

I know that nothing I can do will bring this baby out before he or she is good and ready, but it can't hurt to try right?!? HUMOR ME PEOPLE!!

37 weeks!

37 weeks
Your baby is now considered "full term," even though your due date is three weeks away. If you go into labor now, his lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb. Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.

And... here's what I look like at my baby shower at 37 weeks!

Survey Time

How far along? 36w 5d

Stretch marks? still the same... I don't think they're multiplying at the moment but shhh.. they may hear you!

Sleep: Is good for about half the night... then once I wake up around 3 or 4 there is just no going back to sleep... my brain is on overdrive and will not let me rest!

Movement: Squishy is very active today. More active than he/she has been in a week or so! Mommy's loving it!

Food commentary: Things aren't sounding good to me again... I don't like this trend... I want to eat DAMNIT!

Labor Signs: Having very sporadic contractions... nothing major. Dying for something more concrete!

Belly Button in or out? Some days it's in and other days it's out... it goes back and forth!

What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy! Wine! The time when I didn't waddle like a duck! Wine! And many many more things!

What I am looking forward to: Not baby related... but dinner out with my husband tomorrow night, and possibly a movie. Then Sunday is baby shower #2, thrown by the ever amazing Aunt A!

Nesting madness: comes in spurts! But I get worn out so quickly that it never amounts to much!

Milestones: Almost full term (Saturday)

Appointment

Had an appointment with the MW today. Baby is measuring ahead still (only by a week this time) and has been very very active! Got a crash course on breathing techniques just in-case I decide I want to try them. Also asked about internals, if I should expect for them to start soon, or if they don't routinely do them. MW said that they don't' like to do them until my due date because it causes unnecessary bleeding and cramping, which a lot of time in new mom's freaks them out! She said if I decide I want one at 39 weeks they'll do it at my request, but that it's not their normal practice. I also found out that they have a birthing stool available should I choose to try it, and a birthing ball that I can use not only in room but also in the shower.... and oh does that sounds so heavenly to me! On any given evening I can be found rolling on my yoga ball in the living room to help with the hip pain or soaking in the tub, so I'm pretty sure I'll be taking advantage of those tools!

That's all until next week!

36 weeks (a day early)

36 weeks: Baby is the size of a crenshaw melon

Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Your baby swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of her first bowel movement. At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks)!

Appointment update: We had our 36 week appointment yesterday. Met with the one midwife in the practice that we hadn't met yet. She seemed really nice and we got along with her pretty well. We had our Group B Strep test and we'll get the results at our appointment next week (we go weekly now)! I was sort of hoping for an internal exam to see if I was making any progress yet with dilation or effacement but that was a no-go. Maybe next time!

Belly Pic!

35 weeks!!

35 Weeks

35 weeks:
Your baby doesn't have much room to maneuver now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (as much as a honeydew melon). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

35/35

Not much new to post on... but had to share that today is 35/35 for us! That means 35 WEEKS down and 35 DAYS to go! Getting closer every day!

Survey Time.

How far along? 34w 6d

Stretch marks? oh good Lord yes! I look like I've been attacked by some clawed animal!

Sleep: Sucks!

Movement: Has now become painful! Not always, but lots of the time!

Food commentary: I sit here next to S as he eats a peanut butter sandwich and it makes me want to gag and jump him for it at the same time!

Labor Signs: Think I might be having some come-and-go contractions...

Belly Button in or out? Some days it's in and other days it's out... it goes back and forth!

What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy! Wine! The time when I didn't waddle like a duck!

What I am looking forward to: Another baby shower in a few weeks.... September 19th! And our little babymoon/getaway on the 17th

Nesting madness: The nursery is pretty much put together! WOOHOO!

Squishy's Wardrobe!

If Squishy is a boy... this is what he will have his picture taken in! Love the monkey feet!

If Squishy is a girl... she will have her picture taken in this!

And this is Squishy's coming home out... wishes do come true!

BONUS!

Since Squishy will be here for Halloween this year, and it just so happens to be mommy's favorite holiday, he or she already has a Halloween costume! It says "My first Halloween" plus the adorable pumpkin headband!

On another note... today I got our hospital bags about 80% packed and the cradle moved into our room! Things are really coming together... now we just need a baby! Oh and a pediatrician (they tend to like you to have those before the baby leaves the hospital!) LOL

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

It's September.

That's right ladies and gentlemen that means that next month we will have a baby! HOLY CRAP! Where on earth has the time gone? The idea that it's possible that we will have a baby as soon as the end of this month is crazy to think about!

Okay that's all I just had to share in my amazement!

Getting Closer to Watermelon!

Your pregnancy: 34 weeks

Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (think Cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.

Progress!

How far along? 33w 5d

Stretch marks? oh good Lord yes! My once creamy white tummy is now covered in red tears!

Sleep: sucks! My hips constantly hurt and I'm up every single hour to pee!

Best moment this week: Baby starting to move lots and lots after my being sick for a week!

Movement: see above

Food commentary: I am totally turned off at the thought of soda and totally turned on to the thought of dill pickles!

Labor Signs: None whatsoever.

Belly Button in or out? Some days it's in and other days it's out... it goes back and forth!

What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy!

What I am looking forward to: Another baby shower in a few weeks.... September 19th!

Nesting madness: The nursery is pretty much put together! WOOHOO!

Milestones:

Misc: We're measuring about 10 days ahead of schedule! Today at our appointment we were only at 33w5d but measuring 35weeks... so big baby? or early delivery? We shall see!

33 weeks

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Wow, can you believe that I'll be full term in 4 weeks... one month! Craziness!

Jicama... what exactly is that?

32 weeks: Baby weighs as much as a jicama

By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

Doctors Appointment Update:
Had our 32 weeks appointment on Thursday. Not too much exciting to report... baby's still head down, active as ever, and mommy and midwife are thinking possibly an early arrival is in our future!
While we were there they gave us a tour of L&D... all I can say is WOW! The birthing suites are HUGE, with rather large showers in them and what look like some reasonably comfortable beds! There is also a laboring tub in a separate room down the hall that is quite easily 4 times the size of our tub at home! It's big enough for S to be in there with me... which makes me happy... and there's this beautiful mural painted on the wall of the beach and ocean framed with a huge bay window. As I told S, it's a tub with a view (I'm sure that's the last thing I'll care about when time comes to have contractions in there... but it's still nice to know that it's tranquil and pretty)!

slacker....

So after reading some of the blogs from the girls on the bump, I feel like a complete slacker! Can't believe that I started this blog with good intentions of updating lots on the things going on... and then life happened and it got pushed away! So here and now I'm making a vow to make more of an effort at this again!

Your Baby: Month 7

Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments

"Just when you're ready to give up on the human race, someone like this comes along to spoil it"

I have to share with everyone how blessed S and I have been feeling the last two days. I cannot get over the generosity in people that you don't see everyday... you know those random acts of kindness that come out of nowhere and completely shocks you?

Yesterday I was working and entertaining the grandson of a lady who was out front of our store selling organic produce. He was 7 months old and absolutely adorable! After a few hours his mom came to pick him up and came inside to get me. She asked if this baby was my first and if we had a lot of things yet? I said no not really, mostly just a crib, changing table, and dresser. She takes me outside to her van and GIVES me a car seat that's been barely used. I started looking it over and couldn't believe that it's the EXACT same car seat I had registered for! She also gave us two gym mats and said she has much more at home that she would send to the store with her mom.

This lady wouldn't accept a dime from me for these things, no matter how many times I asked and asked again she wouldn't let me pay her for anything! After she left I went to the bathroom and cried because I could not believe that a complete stranger just gave us one of the big ticket items that we needed... it was just unbelievable!

I am still in shock that she gave us these things and feel so blessed that she showed up randomly in my life!

P.S. The title for this post is a quote from a friend, after he heard my story! It made me laugh and I thought it was only appropriate to use as the title!

time for another one of these...

How far along? 29w 5d

Total weight gain/loss: I'm up 10lbs

Maternity clothes? all maternity, all the time

Stretch marks? oh yes, I'm officially covered! And I still have more on the right than the left!

Sleep: Is starting to suck again! I can't get comfy, but I'm not getting up to pee as much as I was!

Best moment this week: Having S's family get to feel!

Movement: Crazy movement! Squishy gets violent sometimes, it's so neat to watch my stomach moving all around!

Gender: Won't know until October!

Labor Signs: None and hopefully won't have any for a few more weeks!

Belly Button in or out? Almost out... :(

What I miss: being able to get up without help, or moving in slow motion!

What I am looking forward to: Being 30 weeks on Saturday! And also my first baby shower on the 15th of August!

baby appointment today!

We had an appointment this afternoon, Squishy is still measuring right on track! Midwife said that he/she is head down and ready to go (hopefully he/she stays that way)! And on the plus side, I've only gained 3lbs! WOOHOO! We also got our results from my sugar test, my numbers were 109 and they want them to be under 140 so I passed with flying colors. My hemoglobin and blood counts are also right where they want them to be, no anemia for this chicky!

Now we're waiting to hear when we have our childbirth/breastfeeding classes so we can get the tour of labor and delivery. I'm so excited to see what it looks like behind those locked doors! LOL

Midwife gave me a website to check out today... so I"ll share it with all of you too. www.nofearbirth.com

PASSED MY TEST!

Talked to the midwife's office the other day and found out that I passed my Glucose Test! WOOHOO! Don't have to drink that yucky drink again!

In other news... father-in-laws cancer treatment had been taking leaps in the right direction! He should be starting chemo and radiation very soon! We're all a little nervous about how things are going to pan out because he'll be going in for his surgery right around my due date. Mom-in-law and I were talking about how if I go early they'll be in Baltimore, and she would have to see Squishy for the first time in pictures. But we all know that his surgery is super important and that its still possible that I won't deliver until he's back home, or even before he has to go. Guess we'll wait and see!

"I love this crazy, tragic, sometimes almost magic, awful, beautiful life"

First my apologies for not updating a long time there's been some very emotional craziness going on around here.

This past weekend, July 9-11th S and I flew to Texas with his brother and sis-in-law to visit his grandmother. She's in stage 3B lung cancer and her prognosis at the moment is unknown. We are very grateful that we got to go down there to spend some time with her and to let her have the opportunity to see the baby move and kick! However let me just say that flying when you're six months pregnant is NOT fun! Most of my trip was spent with my feet over my head because flying made my ankles swell so much that they disappeared! But I survived and all was worth it getting to see MomMom!

When we got back Sunday night though my left foot was so huge that I called the MW's office to get checked out. S and I went in around 10AM and they told us that there were no problems but to drink lots and lots of water and take a daily calcium supplement. So far the feet have returned to normal and I can finally walk somewhat normal again!

Wednesday night S's parents call a meeting to let us know that S's dad has esophageal cancer and is meeting with a specialist at John's Hopkins Hospital to figure out how he can beat this! We're all very worried for him but he's determined that he's going to beat it and we're all standing behind him 100%. So there's our craziness that's going on!

Oh wait... no it's not! Yesterday I had my 1 hour glucose test... you know that thing where you drink that super sweet drink and then an hour later they draw blood to see if you have gestational diabetes! It wasn't too terrible until it came time to take my blood! The phlebotomist missed my vein the first time and was poking around in there with the needle! He asked if anyone ever told me I have rolling veins... I almost burst into tears telling him "No! No one has ever missed my vein before, I've always been told I have great veins!" Finally a few minutes later and another poke he got into a different vein and drew the two vials they needed. GOOD GRIEF I WAS PISSED! I never felt so icky have blood drawn before!

So there it is... all the nuts-o stuff that's been going on around here lately. I truly hope that things calm down now... I need a break... as does the rest of our family!!

Happy 4th!

First and foremost Happy 4th of July to everyone! Hope you're all enjoying lots of BBQ-ing, camping and fireworks!

Second- I am a few days late on noticing this, but I just picked up on the fact that I have less than a 100 days to go! HOLY MOLY! We're down to 97.... AHHHH!! How flipping exciting is that!?

Third- Today S and I were visiting some of his family at their campsite, celebrating the fourth. I was sitting next to his cousin when she starts flipping out that she just saw my belly move! I starting watching it and BOOM! Just off to the left of my belly button my tummy was jumping! It was the coolest thing ever! I can't believe that Squishy has started to make my belly move.... I am going to be fascinated by this for awhile now!

NURSERY IS DONE!!!!

Lots going on around here the past few days!

S's nephew has moved in with us for the summer. He got here overnight on Monday and is planning to stay for his summer vacation. S is happy to have him to help out on the farm and I'm happy to have him to help around the house! Haha!

Today I had the day off and I have been going since this morning. I went grocery shopping today to stock up (having a 15 year old in the house I know that I'm going to need lots of it)! Came home and dove into finishing painting the nursery! The floor is now done and tomorrow when I get home from work S and I will be moving the furniture up there! I cannot wait to see what it looks like! It hit me a little hard tonight that... there is going to be a baby in there soon. It's crazy to think that I have less than 15 weeks to go before this baby is here! Sometimes I can't wrap my head around the idea that I'm pregnant and that there is a baby growing inside me! CRAZINESS!

Once we get the furniture up there tomorrow I'll post lots of pictures!

Yard Sale Buys!

Went to a few yard sales today and I think I made out pretty well! I got a Vicks Vaporizer for the baby's room, a wipe warmer (never wanted one of these, but for a buck why not?), crib sheets, a waterproof crib pad, a bag full of books, a baby book and my favorite purchase of the day...

Less than two years old, no rips, stains, or tears! The best part about it is.... it retails for around $269.00 and I paid $35.00! WHOOHOOO!!!

Look What Mommy Bought Daddy for Father's Day!
