hi-ho-hi-ho it's off to work I go!

Tomorrow I start back to work for the first time since the weeks before the baby was born! I'm starting off slow with only Mondays for right now, but I will slowly build up to three days a week by the middle of spring. Felicia, a friend of the family is going to keep K for me. I'm glad we have someone we know and can trust to watch her so that I don't have to put her in daycare! It will be good for K to spend time with someone other than mommy, plus Felicia has a daughter who is almost a year old so K will have a playmate and social interaction! Well, wish me luck... I'm a nervous wreck!

Edit: I should also let you know that K is off her steroid and breathing treatments. She's gotten rid of all of her RSV symptoms except her runny nose! YAY!

February 13th we took K to my great aunts to meet her great great grandfather and had the chance to get a five generation photograph.

5 generations!

Today, February 22th K sat up unassisted for more than a split second! Mommy and Daddy are so very proud of her!

Shocked that she's doing it!

So proud of herself that she's drooling! LOL

RSV- Respiratory Syncytial Virus

I have lots and lots of blogging to catch up on tonight while K is napping (hopefully) but for right now I'll tell you all about how she has Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)! :(

For those of you wondering what RSV is... here ya go!

"Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a very common virus that leads to mild, cold-like symptoms in adults and older healthy children. It can be more serious in young babies, especially to those in certain high-risk groups.

RSV is the most common germ that causes lung and airway infections in infants and young children. Most infants have had this infection by age 2. Outbreaks of RSV infections most often begin in the fall and run into the spring."

Symptoms Include...

  • Bluish skin color due to a lack of oxygen (cyanosis)
  • Breathing difficulty or labored breathing
  • Cough
  • Croupy cough (often described as a "seal bark" cough)
  • Fever
  • Nasal flaring
  • Rapid breathing (tachypnea)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stuffy nose
  • Wheezing

The day before yesterday she suddenly came down with this really crappy cough, it got progressively worse through the day and by that night she sounded like a seal. I was up with her constantly through the night, and ended up elevating her bed and plugging in her vaporizer. Called the doctor early yesterday morning and they gave us a 1PM appointment. The doctor listened to her breathing and looked up her nose and decided that they should test for RSV. So they did the test and sent us home with a nebulizer that she has to use every 4 hours. We got a phone call around 8:30 last night saying that she definitely had it and that there would be a RX called in for us in the morning for a steroid to be used in her nebulizer twice a day. So far today she's got a fierce runny nose and a cough that breaks my heart every time I hear it. I feel so sad for her, but I'm happy we caught it early and are getting it treated!

Lunch Date with my Hubby!

So S and I left K for the first time today and went on a lunch date! It was glorious! I honestly did a million times better than I ever thought I would, S on the other hand... not so much! Poor guy hated leaving her, and I admit it was tough, but it had to be done. I just kept reminding myself that for my own sanity and for the sake of my relationship with my husband we needed some time just to be together, sans baby! We went out to lunch at Outback Steakhouse and used up the gift card that MIL bought us for Christmas. Then we stopped at the mall for a little shopping trip. When we got back K's Aunt A said she was wonderful and that they had a good time. She wouldn't take the bottle for them but she didn't even seem hungry when I got back and tried to nurse her so I didn't worry too much. I'm so happy that I feel comfortable leaving her for a few hours with family. Now I'm not so stressed about leaving her to go back to work in a few weeks.

Day 11-Favorite TV shows

Time to get back to this blog challenge too! S and I watch a lot of television. It's basically the only time get to spend time with one another. Since we can't really go out on dinner dates due to the fact that the cows have to be milked between 5 and 8 every night. So we cuddle on the couch together at night and watch television as our dates! So here's what we watch!

Slacker McSlacker!

So I've been a slacker again and ignoring you all! Last week K and I discovered that we're both allergic to Fenugreek. It's used in breastfeeding mom's to help boost their milk supply. But apparently it's not going to be boosting my milk supply because K broke out in a nasty case of eczema and it gave me some not so pleasant symptoms! Thankfully soon after stopping K's rash started to clear up and is now completely gone.

I've also make the decision to go back to work, as long as all works out with the lady that I have lined up to watch K. I'll start back just one day a week on February 28th and then slowly build up to three days a week. I'm a terrified mess, but we really need a second income so we can build up our savings. Leaving K has me a wreck, I won't deny it. I haven't left her yet, not even for an hour. So that's something that we're going to be working on over the next few weeks. K also hasn't taken a bottle on a steady basis yet, so we're going to be working on that too. OK I can't talk about this anymore... I'm going to start crying again.

We went to visit my family on January 22nd... here's a few pictures...
